CORAL GABLES

History

In 1925 George Merrick began to create what today is perhaps Miami-Dade’s most well known and historical city.  Designed for all businesses to be just a short walk from each other, Coral Gables hosts some of South Florida’s finest dinning, shopping and entertaining. In addition, it is proud to be in the company of only one other city nationwide to have a fully-accredited Police Department, a class 1 Fire Department, and the highest awarded Building and Zoning Department rating. Among many other significant places, Coral Gables is the site of the University of Miami, the National Landmark Biltmore Hotel, Venetian Pool, Matheson Hammock Park, and Fairchild Tropical Garden.
